AGENDA AGAINST GODFRED DAME FOILED BY INCONTROVERTIBLE FACTS IN THE GPGC CASE

As we all struggle to make sense out of all the convoluted legal jargons with respect to the $170 million judgment debt Ghana must pay as a result of NDC’s sweetheart deals with some power producers, communicators of the opposition party sought to attack the integrity of the Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame.

In their haste to parry the blame from them to the Akufo-Addo administration, the NDC went after the young but intelligent Godfred Dame, accusing him of dereliction of duty and incompetence on the basis that ‘he failed’ to mount a spirited defense on behalf of the state.

What, perhaps, most of them didn’t know is the fact that as at the time the arbitration came out with its judgment on the GPGC Power Agreement, Godfred Yeboah Dame was neither the Attorney General nor the deputy.

In fact, there was no Attorney General at the time since that department was not part of the ministries the President named his representatives. The AG department by law is not subjected to that provision.

What we had in place was the Solicitor General. When there is a vacuum in terms of ministerial representatives at the Attorney General’s department, the Solicitor General is legally responsible for the day to day administration of the ministry.

This, in effect, makes nonsense of the narrative that Godfred Dame willfully neglected his duty by putting up a defense against the judgment. One may wonder why their fixation on Dame, it is that simple.

The NDC is terrified by the fierce glowing of the young legal luminary. They are intimidated by the firepower of Godfred as he is poised to defend the state and deal with all matters which may involve some of the opposition members.

He simply gives them nightmares, and, therefore, a matter which involves him would be massaged or embellished so as to bring him down. Godfred Dame has once again trounced these people with his honest explanations of the matter.
