WHEN FACTS GET LOST IN THE AMBIGUOUS WORLD OF SEMANTICS……
This whole emoluments for past, present and future First and Second Ladies is a nomenclatural conundrum infused with stale propaganda whose destination is to set the public against President Akufo-Addo for reasons not far-fetched.
It is an argument lost in semantics as the main issues are being misconstrued due to their wordings and constructions.
To simplify the whole matter, past, present and future First and Second Ladies are being paid allowances from the budgetary allocations to the Office of the President. This has always been the convention since 2001 and even before that period.
These allowances, it must be emphasized, have been substantial enough and have been paid regularly to them.
Mr. President, I believe, was of the view that these payments as allowances are being paid behind closed doors and ought to be made known to the Ghanaian public.
Making them known to the public and for their subsequent regularization would be in the form of salaries.
Part of the problem has been that most Ghanaians didn’t know about any form of payments being made to our First and Second Ladies, past or present, making this new information hitting them cold in the groins.
The allowances pretty much turn into the salaries being promulgated. Many believe that they are two different entities, but that’s not the case at all.
The amounts involved are virtually the same as what’s being paid as allowances would be the same to be paid as salaries to them.
Unless we can make compelling arguments against the need to take care of our First and Second Ladies, there certainly will be monies to be paid to them for their upkeep and other things.
Let’s not confuse the issue. The allowances metamorphose into salaries and that’s what this issue is all about.
As always, the NDC is lurking in the shadows throwing deformed versions of the issues into the public space. Sunshine will come upon these matters soon enough for sanity to reign supreme.
