WHEN WILL LORDINA MAHAMA REFUND THE ALLOWANCES PAID TO HER FROM 2009 TO 2020?

The rip-roaring opprobrium that has characterized the decision to pay past, present and future First and Second Ladies monthly salaries has led to the First and Second Lady rejecting the recommendations captured in the Prof. Yaa Ntiamoa-Baidu Committee’s report.

The First Lady, in a press statement, has rejected the salaries or allowances with the promise of refunding allowances paid to her since the NPP assumed office.

“In view of this, the First Lady, in consultation with the President of the Republic, has decided to refund all monies paid to her as allowances from the date of the President’s assumption of office, i.e., from January 2017 to date, amounting to GH¢899,097.84.

The First Lady has also decided not to accept any monies that have been allocated to be paid to her pursuant to the recommendations of the Ntiamoa-Baidu Committee, as approved by Parliament” part of the statement read.

Social media and mainstream media have been home to banters for and against the recommendations as the opposition National Democratic Congress and its allies made a monster of the recommendations.

Former President John Mahama, in his usual characteristics, came out to bastardize the decision and made it appear that this was news to him as he never paid any substantial amount of monies to his wife, Lordina Mahama and the then Second Lady, Matilda Amissah-Arthur.

It turned out that the Mahama administration indeed was paying the then First and Second Ladies, Lordina and Matilda.

More importantly, now that Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo has rejected the allowances and has pledged to refund whatever was paid to her as same, would Mrs. Lordina Mahama follow suit by rejecting and refunding all the allowances paid to her? Time will tell.
