When the Agyapa transaction came up and Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko’s law firm was contacted to provide some services, he was pilloried. Meanwhile, Gabby is not in government as he holds no appointment in this administration. His crime is that he is related to President Akufo-Addo and so should not be given any contract, not even from third parties.

Egyapa Mercer was guillotined for allowing his law firm to provide services to PDS. Egyapa was a Member of Parliament, not an appointee, but he was crucified. To the extent that that issue came up at his vetting and the Minority threatening not to support his approval should tell us how the NDC has been heavy on these matters.

Then this GCGP judgment debt saga comes to town, and as it has always been their wont, the opposition party went to town, made a mincemeat of the issues, twisted the details and polluted the minds of Ghanaians with same. They even roped in Gabby by saying that the law firm contracted to help adjudicate the matter has people known to Mr. Otchere-Darko.

As the issues raged on, it became apparent that Dr. Dominic Ayine, the ten Deputy Attorney General, the same person who was heavily involved in the drafting of that dubious contract, used not only his law firm to register GCGP but also gave the entity his partner of the law firm to work with GCGP.

What is more intriguing is the the fact that the lawyer Ayine gave the responsibility of working with and for GCGP happened to be a lawyer for former President John Dramani Mahama in the 2013 election petition.

Dr. Abdul Baasit Bamba, the partner of Dr. Dominic Ayine, the then Attorney General, became the lawyer for GCGP. Our NDC friends seem to find everything right with these issues.

The Deputy Attorney General who drafted the contract which favoured the foreign entity GCGP to the detriment of the economic well-being of Ghana, also used his law firm to register the company, gave GCGP his partner to work with them, and the said partner happened to be the legal representative of then President Mahama? No wonder our NDC friends have suddenly gone into hiatus over the matter.

The apostles of good governance who descended heavily on Godfred Dame when the issue was first reported have now decided to place the issues in the middle despite the above incontrovertible facts. They are playing it safe because Mahama and his charges have been discovered to have brokered a deal which was untidy, a deal which is believed to have made those actors rich.

In effect, we are being told that the blood that runs through Ayine is golden and so he cannot be touched, but the ordinary blood flowing through Gabby and Mercer deserves condemnation. Objectivity is truly subjective depending upon who is in the picture, we are being told.
