Is Parliament turning into a theatre where comedians engage in their farcical enterprises?
A high court has determined and ruled that James Gyekye Quayson is not to hold himself as MP for Assin North and that a by-election should be held to select someone else as the people’s representative, yet he was allowed entry into Parliament’s Privileges Committee meeting.
He spoke to media men and said that he is still the MP for Assin North, defying the orders of the court.
Under what authority or laws was he allowed to participate in the committee’s proceedings? So in Ghana, a high court can annul the results of an election and same is not respected?
A stay of execution filed and yet to be determined by a court does not necessarily mean the order given does not apply and same defied. He should be charged for contempt!
Parliament must not allow this level of lawlessness. They should direct him to the law courts to deal with his matter before anything else. This is disheartening. Parliament must not sit on the fence while the laws of our land are being trampled upon by this man.
