LET’S HYPE OUR LOCAL CLUBS LIKE WE DID FOR CHELSEA AND MAN CITY
Despite the mental agonies we have suffered this evening as a result of the loss of Man City to unimpressive and uninspiring Chelsea, I also observed something.
The zeal with which Ghanaians on social media were supporting the two English clubs was one of wonder. Ghanaians are truly passionate about football, foreign football, I must add.
I ask, can’t we gift a fraction of our insatiable appetite for supporting these foreign teams to support our Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak?
We seem to be so much and dearly attached to these foreign teams but same cannot be seen in our local football.
I have sordidly yielded to the unvarnished truth that the English Premiership and the other leagues in Europe are top notches, but can’t we expend a little bit of our support for these teams and leagues to our own leagues?
The challenges and problems are enormous locally, but I don’t think they are insurmountable. We need to spice up our game in order to have mass appeal just like we have been watching in Europe.
The Game Changer should let his game-changing skills count. We should all put in our quotas to help develop our football to become one of envy.
Let’s dedicate a fraction of our support for foreign football teams to help develop our local football. Ghana is no longer the powerhouse it used to be on the African Continent as far as football is concerned.
We can all begin by hyping our local league, teams and players on social media just like we did with Chelsea and City. If we continue to stay away from our local league like a plague, we risk sinking much further in football.
