WHY FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE BY BURNING OF EXCAVATORS IF YOU ARE NOT INTO GALAMSEY?
When dry bones are mentioned, the older folks get uncomfortable, and this axiomatic expression comes in handy with respect to what President Akufo-Addo said and the subsequent response from some miners.
President Akufo-Addo has sent a stronger message to people who are into galamsey activities that the burning of excavators would continue unabated and that whoever believes he has been wronged as a result can seek redress in court.
This emphatic statement has drawn criticisms from small scale miners. They hold the view that burning excavators is not something they embrace and that same should be halted.
I find this call on the government to cease burning of excavators as something shocking. Why would one feel scared if the fellow is not involved in galamsey?
It clearly goes to show that these galamsey activities are being done by the same Ghanaian small scale miners. They wouldn’t be alarmed and uncomfortable with this directive and modus operandi if they are not guilty of indulging in galamsey activities.
I have had reasons to posit that most of these small scale miners are the same people furiously indulging in the illegal mining activities called galamsey. Their press conference speaks volumes about their involvement in galamsey.
